Clients Julie and Peter Eigenfeld approached Close Associates with a unique set of challenges. They had a small plot of land with incredible views, a limited budget, and a dream for an affordable, low maintenance, distinctly modern home. The design of the three-story house is simple and efficient; a vertical viewing box takes advantage of the location and makes the most of the small footprint dictated by the lot. Bold color and creative use of low-maintenance materials, like blue corrugated siding and industrial louvers, add flair to the clean, minimalist design without increasing construction costs.  A long balcony wraps around the back of the three-bedroom house and an outdoor spiral stairway leads to a deck spanning the roof-top, taking advantage of outdoor space and view of St. Paul. The project was recently featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Minneapolis Star & Tribune, on PBS' Right on the Money, and in a new book, Blueprint Affordable by Michelle Kodis.
